What Makes PTMS Music so Great?

PTMS Music electives are open to all students at Pacific Trails, regardless of previous experience.  Our music classes meet during the school day.  ​This year, PTMS is offering Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Orchestra, Advanced Orchestra, and Guitar.  

​The PTMS Music Department participates in Forum's Music Festivals and Disneyland trip, SCSBOA Festivals, Padre's Band Night, and other community events and concerts. 

Our students participate in the SDUHSD Honor Band and Orchestra, CBDA All State Honor Band and Orchestra, the SCSBOA All Southern Band and Orchestra, and the CMEA All County Honor Band.

We Need Your Help!

The PTMS Music Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, registered with the State of California. The goal of the organization is to support the instrumental music program at Pacific Trails Middle School through fundraising and volunteer activities.   Typical meeting tasks would be to discuss budget and fundraising, upcoming concerts and get-togethers, volunteers for various events, and much more.

Volunteer

More volunteers are needed to help run the PTMS Music Foundation.  Music parents, this is the place to get together!  During meetings, the PTMS Music Foundation is kept up-to-date on music happenings. In addition to board member roles, we need volunteers to organize coffee concerts, bake sales, competitions, events and field trips and to serve as event chaperones.  Please click here to fill out a volunteer survey.  You can also contact us, or email Mr. Johnson directly.

Donate

The PTMS Music Foundation coordinates a variety of activities to help raise funds in support of the music programs.  However, a majority of the funds come from the support of the generous parents.  In the past five years, our program has grown in enrollment by nearly five times and we need your support to keep our music program going strong. A $250 suggested annual donation for each student will help provide a strong music education and many great activities.

Coaches

Coaches are experts in their fields, and serve as additional instructors in the classroom.  Coaches enable us to enhance the student experience by working in small groups, either assisting beginners or working with advanced students. This year we have an orchestra coach, Marguerite Jayasimha.  Annual cost approximately $7,000.

Sheet Music

Did you know each piece of music we play, in each ensemble, can cost hundreds of dollars? The district budget does not cover our basic music fees.  We rely on donations to cover our music purchases.  PTMS is a new school and we are gradually building our music library. Annual cost approximately $3,000

Organization Fees

Participation in events requires organization fees. (SCSBOA, CMEA, CBDA). Annual cost approximately $300

Instruments

We are gradually building our instrument supply.  Currently, we supply the oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, tenor saxophone, bari saxophone, french horn, baritone, tuba, and percussion equipment (drums) for band students and the viola, cello, and bass for orchestra students.  We would like to continue to build our instrument supply. Annual cost varies depending on contributions

Uniforms and Fees

Did you know our zip code houses several families in low-income housing? Our foundation pays for the uniforms of students who are unable to pay, as well as backup uniforms. If students cannot contribute to trips and other fees, we make up the difference. Annual cost approximately $1,000

Repair and Maintenance

To keep our program running, we need basic maintenance and repair supplies on hand including ​orchestra strings, rosin, reeds and more. Annual cost approximately $1000
